Holiday Season Blues: The Gift of Giving

The holiday season is “supposed” to be all about bliss, happiness, giving, gratitude, being surrounded by loved ones, and more. However, do you ever notice that it’s about a 50/50 split of the people that feel this way versus the people feeling the opposite of happiness and bliss?
People are stressed out for multiple reasons:
  • Tight on money from shopping
  • Extra bills - more spending
  • Holiday Parties
  • Lack of time
  • Work demands, vacation prep, & more
Other people are sad because rather than reuniting with loved ones to make more memories, they are reminded they don’t have that loved one this year for whatever the reason may be; sickness, death, broken relationship, re-location, etc. This time of year brings a drastic time of reflection over the past which can bring up a lot of different emotions.

As the end of the year has been coming to a very fast end, there is an added pressure to the ordinary daily living.  Pressure to complete projects and deadlines before the end of the year, pressure to have a new year's plan ready by the first of the year, pressure to allocate your time evenly to numerous people without feeling guilty or hurting others’ feelings. With added pressure comes frustration, lack of patience, anger; basically, you turning into The Grinch

Have you ever taken the time to sit back and wonder, “Why?”

This week I was reminded of the best way to give during this time of year.  The gift of listening with the intention to problem solve.  I received a message stating, “Heard you were stressed, let’s hang out and see what we can get organized.” Listening and problem solving, short and to the point.

You can learn something from every conversation you have.
Take time out for yourself; every day.

As you finish up your last-minute shopping or are wondering what to get a particular person this year consider this; maybe they need the gift of you providing them with something that can’t be purchased or the purchase is much less than a name brand watch they "have" to get.  These are tools that can be used to genuinely enhance a loved one or a complete stranger’s life. A gift that will never be forgotten or go out of style because you gave them something that came directly from your soul to enhance their life.  As you begin to wonder what you can give as a tool, realize that’s up to you to decide.  The best part of giving this gift (of essentially your time and good energy), the additional stress of the holidays begin to lessen, and The Grinch begins to fade away.
